Abstract


The Religiosity Perceptions of Koran Course Students: A Quantitative Study on Normative and Popular Religiosity
Religiosity is analyzed from different perspectives and several theoretical and applied researches are conducted both in Turkey and the West. Scientists who carry out these researches introduce different definitions and typologies of religiosity according to their personal and professional views. One of the several typologies of religiosity is the normative and popular religiosity. The purpose of this study is to analyze the religiosity perceptions of Koran course students regarding the typologies of normative and popular religiosity. This study was performed on 156 students in two Koran courses in Kastamonu. General scanning method was used in this research; the data has been obtained by conducting lykert-type scale questionnaires including 37 items. Measurement tool used is called “The Religious Orientation Scale” developed by Çoştu (2009). The value of the overall reliability of measurement instrument is .87. As a result of this study, it was found that, the religiosity perceptions of Koran course students have a tendency towards the normative religiosity; age and profession are the effective factors on this tendency.
