Abstract


Education and Learning in Summer Quran Courses
Summer Quran courses are one of the religious education and learning activities run by the Presidency of Religious Affairs. The target audience of these activities, which run under the informal education, is the student of formal education. The program, the environment of education and the timetable of it are prepared and taken in consideration accordingly with the participation of the student in formal education. The courses, which begins with the holiday of the formal educational institutions, take 10 weeks. In the program of these courses, there are teachings of the Qur’anic recitation and Essential Religious Knowledge. The summer Quran courses take parts in the mosques and Quran Courses Institutes. Their teachers and coordinators are the employees in mosques and these institutions. The lack of the ability of these employees in teaching and educational serving is the main problem of these courses. The students in pedagogical educational age do immensely participate in these courses and it is a negative situation for reaching the educational goals in these courses that these courses are run by the employees who have no sufficient ability to teach. This situation is also valid for the Summer Quran Courses. In this study titled “Education and Learning in Summer Quran Courses”, a pedagogical evaluation of religious education and learning given in these courses has been presented. Also, there are information about the content, the area, and the techniques and methods of this education. Because of the target audiences of these courses are the students of formal education, the problem of suitability of the given education with pedagogical standards is specially taken in consideration. The target audience of the mosques where the traditional religious education and learning have been taken in place are mostly adults. To employ the servant of the mosques who are specialized to the adults, for teaching the children in these courses requires special ability in child education. However, they do not have this ability and this is a major problem. The aim of this study is to make a contribution in solving this problem.
