Abstract


The Perceived Effects of Popular Culture on Student Behaviour
The purpose of the present study was to explore effects that popular culture brings about for the students in secondary schools. The study group composed 24 secondary school teachers working in Gaziantep in 2012-2013 academic year. Participants were selected via maximum variation sampling technique. To ensure “maximum variation”, the participants were selected from three different secondary school types. This research is a case study, one of qualitative research methods. For data collection, individual qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted. This study is significant as students display the influences of popular culture to their parents, teachers, school administration and school staff. Research results indicated that popular culture has many positive and negative effects on students’ behaviors.
