Abstract
Reviewing of Primary School Turkish Language Course Curriculums in Republic Period Related to Dictionary Use
The present study aimed to determine the explanation, principle, purpose and
acquisition characteristics related to the dictionary use of primary school Turkish
curriculums. In this study, qualitative research approach has been adopted. Primary
school Turkish course curriculums prepared in the Republic period was determined as
the data source in the research. Document analysis technique has been used for collecting
research data. In the research, the content (explanation, purpose, acquisitions) related
to dictionary use in primary school curriculums has been determined and classified.
Explanation and acquisitions for turning the dictionary use skill into a habit were
subjected to content analysis according to the titles / areas in the Turkish curriculum. The
expressions of purpose, acquisition and explanation regarding the dictionary use were
analyzed according to the curriculum, learning area and class. As a result of the research,
it has been determined that there are purpose and explanations within the reading area
for the dictionary use, although limited in all curriculums since 1924. However, it has
been observed that the items related to the dictionary use were more intense in the
programs of 1981, 2005 and after, with examples of explanation, purpose, acquisition
and worksheets.
