Abstract
The Ability to Use Thinking Design Skills in Social Service Practices of Social Studies Prospective Teachers
The main aim of the research is to examine the processes of reflecting the thinking
design skills in projects prepared by the social studies prospective teachers for the
social service practices course. The qualitative research method was used in this study.
The research was designed according to the phenomenological model, which is one of
the qualitative research methods. Semi-structured interview form was used to collect
data. This data was analyzed with descriptive analysis method. The study group of this
research consisted of 16 prospective teachers who has been studying in the social studies
undergraduate program of the Ağrı Ibrahim Çeçen University Education Faculty. Groups
of four people were formed with prospective teachers. As a result of this study, it was
concluded that the thinking design approach contributed positively to the development of
the participants’ skills such as design, empathy, multi-dimensional perception, research,
generating solutions, problem solving and critical thinking. Furthermore, it was
determined that the participants improved themselves on issues like joint action, group
solidarity and sensitivity.
