Abstract
Trends in Arabic Teaching Research as a Foreign Language
The aim of this study is to find out research trends in the field of “Teaching Arabic
as a Foreign Language” (TAFL) in Turkey by exploring the articles that were published
between 2000 and 2019. In the research, 151 articles published in 82 journals in ULAKBİM
(Turkish academic network and information centre) and Google Scholar databases
containing publications related to the field of "Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language"
were analyzed. The research was limited to the keywords "Arabic Language Education",
"Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language" and "Teaching Arabic". For this purpose, the
Articles were evaluated in terms of their publishing dates, institution, number of authors,
methods, data collection procedures, sample characteristics, data analysis techniques,
subject areas and their topics. The articles were analyzed by document review method
within the framework of descriptive approach and each article was subjected to descriptive
and content analysis by using the "Article Classification Form".The data processed
were transferred to SPSS 17.0 program and statistical calculations were carried out.
According to the results, it was determined that the majority of the articles were written
by single author, Theoretical (Compilation) type, mostly with undergraduate students
as a descriptive and sample group. The number of published articles has increased in
the last five years. In addition, in the articles examined, studies were generally carried
out in Arabic teaching approaches-method a, four language skills, student / teacher
characteristics, Arabic teaching history, Arabic teaching in different countries, Arabic
Teaching Materials, Language Learning Strategies, Assessment, Language Teaching and
Technology subjects.
