Abstract
Investigation of Creativity Levels of Preschool Teachers
The purpose of this research is to determine the creativity levels of preschool teachers
according to their own perceptions and to examine whether their creativity levels differ
according to their personal characteristics and the style of education they offer. The
sample of the study consists of 85 preschool teachers working at public schools in the city
center of Uşak. This research has adopted a descriptive survey model. In this research,
the scale, “How creative are you?” developed by Raudsepp (1979), adapted into Turkish
by Sungur (1997) is used. The differentiation levels of creativity scores obtained from the
scale are analyzed according to various variables. According to the findings of this study,
preschool teachers working in the city center of Uşak perceive themselves as “creative”
and there is a statistically significant difference found according to the type of activity
areas (e.g., drama, mathematics) that the teachers prefer primarily. It was found that
teachers with a high level of creativity prefer drama activities more. On the other hand,
no significant difference was found in preschools teachers’ level of creativity according
to their personal features (gender, age, type of high-school they graduated from,
hometown, education level of parents, occupation of parents, their reading habits and
their preschool education experiences), activity centers preferred, educational strategies
preferred (methods and techniques) and the type of assessment/evaluation of children’s
development preferred.
