Abstract
Use of Software in Turkish Language and Literature Education: Example of Turnitin
In this study, the use of software in Turkish Language and Literature education will
be discussed. Software, which is the whole of meaningful expressions created by using
computer language to solve an existing problem, is used frequently for different purposes
in social sciences with its varieties designed for educational purposes. The use of Turnitin,
which is known as plagiarism detection software, will be used in language and literature
education, and the use of software will be evaluated in terms of students and lecturers in
this study. At İstanbul Okan University Turkish Language Department, Turnitin software is
used by four lecturers and an average of 3000 students every year. In our study, the results
obtained from the application carried out with 402 students from seven different faculties
and 4 lecturers working in the Turkish Language department, the usefulness-limitations
of the software for the student and the lecturer, the usefulness-limitations of the software
in terms of Turkish Language and literature education, and interesting experiences in
the use of the software. It is discussed. In the research, a questionnaire asking openended
questions about the software, data was collected through an unstructured interview
form. The data were qualitatively interpreted by content analysis method and presented
in tables.
