Abstract
Preschool Teacher’s Views on the use of Stories with Animal Heroes in the Classroom
This study aimed to explore and assess preschool teachers’ views on the use of stories
with animal heroes in the classroom. The study used a qualitative case study design.
It was conducted in 2019 with seven preschool teachers serving under the Ministry of
National Education. Students of all participating teachers were aged between 5 and
6 years. The sample was selected through convenience sampling based on voluntary
participation. The data were collected using a semi-structured interview form that was
prepared by the researcher and tested for validity and reliability. It was found that all
participating preschool teachers prefer using stories with animal heroes in the classroom.
It was also found that the teachers prefer stories with animal heroes or animal characters
because animal heroes and characters are interesting, instructive, and liked by children.
Finally, they expressed the positive aspects of stories with animal heroes as follows:
supporting language development, providing information about animals, developing a
love for animals, overcoming fear of animals, learning the ecological cycle, and acquiring
knowledge of the environment and nature.
