Abstract
Determination of Factors Affecting the Usage Time of Alcohol and Tobacco with Seemingly Unrelated Regression Model
Alcohol and tobacco use has become a global problem as it is an important health
problem. Alcohol and tobacco use deprives the individual of the right to a quality life, thus
leading to diseases and premature death. The aim of this study is to determine the factors
of alcohol consumption and use of tobacco by individuals aged 15 and over inhabiting
in Turkey. Since alcohol and tobacco use are two interrelated concepts, it was estimated
with the seemingly unrelated regression model. In the study 2016 by TurkStat “Turkey
Health Survey”, cross-sectional data obtained from the survey was used. According to
the estimated model results, it was determined that the gender, marital status, household
income, general health problem, frequency of eating fruit, exposure to tobacco smoke and
statistical region units were effective on alcohol and tobacco use durations.
