Abstract
Investigation of the Student Opinions Related to Mobile Technology Use in Art Education and its Effect on Their Motivations
It is possible to apply technology, which is used in every field of education, in workshop
courses. Accordingly, it is aimed to elicit the opinions and suggestions of the students who
are educated in art teaching about the use of mobile technological devices (smartphone,
tablet computer, notebook, etc.) for workshop courses, and to provide opportunities for
more efficient and effective use of mobile devices in line with their opinions in the study.
The study was carried out with voluntary participation of 45 students- from each class
level- at the Department of Arts and Crafts in the Faculty of Education in Erzincan Binali
Yıldırım University in the fall term of 2019-2020 academic year. In the study, which was
designed with the qualitative research method, the data were collected with the semistructured
interview form created according to expert opinion. Descriptive analysis was
employed in the analysis of the qualitative data collected with the interview form. The
results reached with the interviews suggest that it is necessary to use a mobile device for
workshop courses, that it has advantages such as accessing information faster, looking
at images, creating sketches, using different programs (Photoshop, pixelart, picsart, etc.)
effectively., İt was found that the students especially stated the device charge and internet
access problems during the visual search as the difficulties and limitations that may occur
in the use of mobile devices. As it is considered in terms of motivation, it was determined
that being fast and accessible positively affects student motivation, but students also
experience negativities such as distraction from time to time In general, it was found that
mobile devices contribute positively to education and training in art education as in every
field of education.
