Abstract
An Integrated Design Proposal in the Search For New Model at Higher Education: Interdisciplinary Digital Model (IDM)
Higher education institutions have to take the pioneering steps to guide the changing
paradigm in the transformation process they are in. One of the first steps to accomplish
this challenging task should be self-transformation. Besides international/national
research on this issue, reform studies are carried out at institutional level at some higher
education institutions. Among these institutions, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University
has established University Design Initiative Board to carry out change-oriented studies
examining the changing paradigm in higher education with an original perspective. In
this study, the basic dimensions and structural features of a new model design in higher
education developed by the Board were explained. In the development process of the
Interdisciplinary Digital Model, institutional, academic, scientific, economic, legal, social
and communicative dimensions of higher education system were examined. The necessities
that the new model should have for each dimension, the limitations created by the higher
education system and its applications, and the recommendations regarding the things to
overcome these limitations and ensure transformation were explained. Afterwards, the
Interdisciplinary Digital Model, its basic foundations and qualifications; undergraduate
education process, undergraduate curriculum structure, and department determination
process were explained. This model can be applied across a higher education institution
or at the faculty level. Higher education institutions have the responsibility to catch the
future in the present. For this responsibility, Interdisciplinary Digital Model, explained in
detail in this study and developed with a holistic approach, can be recommended.
