Abstract
An Investigation on “Moral Courses for Children-Malumat-ı Ahlakiyye-“ by Tuccarzade İbrahim Hilmi Çığıraçan
Equipping students with moral values accepted by the society plays an important
role in the continuation of the culture of that society. In order to build a healthy society
both bodily and mentally, morality must be comrade to knowledge. İbrahim Hilmi
ÇIĞIRAÇAN is one of those working in the field of education, stating that the lack of
religious education and good morality will have a negative effect on national education.
One of the works of Ibrahim Hilmi, who penned lots of works in this context is the book
called as “Moral Courses for Children”. It was framed with the statement “It was
organized according to the latest curriculum of the Ministry of Education of the period,
it was written according to the level of the youngest children” and it was prepared to
be taught as a textbook in Primary schools. The book consists of three parts, first part
is the moral values that he desired, and the behaviors to be avoided, the second part is
the protection and importance of health, and the last one is the citizenship education.
In this study, the first part of this book, moral knowledge “Malumat-ı Ahlakiye”, will
be examined. The first part, consisting of 36 main titles and 127 subtitles was written
with the aim of raising a happy, hardworking, moral and good individual to God. The
book was written in plain language, a few subtitles are given under each main title and
these topics are supported with historical events, stories, proverbs, idioms and hadiths.
