Abstract
A Research on the Relationship Between the Dark Triad Personality, Psychological Entitlement, Relative Deprivation and Turnover Intention
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between Machiavellianism,
subclinical narcissism and subclinical psychopathy which constitute the dark triple
personality traits and psychological entitlement and the relationship between these two
personality traits and relative deprivation and turnover intention, on academics working
at State Universities in the Western Mediterranean Region (Antalya, Burdur, Isparta). The
sample of the study consists of 202 academicians working in the Western Mediterranean
Region. The survey form was used as a data collection tool in the study. The questionnaire
form consists of dark triple personality traits, psychological entitlement, relative
deprivation and intention to quit scales, and demographic questions. The data were
collected using the snowball sampling method. The collected data were analyzed using
SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis
of the data in Pearson correlation, simple linear regression and multiple regression
analysis. According to the findings of the research, it was determined that subclinical
narcissism, which is one of the dark triad personality traits, has effects on psychological
entitlement, Machiavellianism and subclinical psychopathy on the turnover intention, but
none of them had an effect on relative deprivation. Psychological entitlement is effective
on both the turnover intention and relative deprivation. The study is considered to be a
pioneering study in the following studies, since there are not many studies in the Turkish
literature on dark triad personality traits, especially psychological entitlement, which
have adverse consequences, and it is one of the rare studies in which the relationships
between personality traits with negative consequences and their possible negative
consequences are examined.
