Abstract
First Literacy Teaching During the Epidemic
The Coronavirus, which started in China in December 2019 and declared as a
pandemic disease by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020, affected
all countries in areas such as economy, education and health. The epidemic, which can
still evolve in different directions, continues to cause serious harm to humanity. This
process has affected the education system of our country as well. Alternative methods
have been used for educational activities at all levels of our country's education system.
Teaching activities of primary schools started to be carried out generally with distance
education systems such as EBA (Education Information Network) . First literacy teaching
is carried out through EBA and / or distance education technologies such as Zoom and
Microsoft Teams for the first time in our country. In this sense, this study, which will
probably be the first in the field, is of great importance. In addition, this research is of
particular importance in determining the current problems encountered in first literacy
teaching in these environments. The main purpose of the research is to evaluate the first
literacy teaching process, which is affected by the epidemic and carried out with distance
education via EBA, together with the studies carried out, to identify the main problems
and to contribute to the stakeholders of the subject such as classroom teachers, planners
and administrators. The research was conducted as a qualitative research method and
case study from qualitative research designs. A semi-structured interview form and
technique consisting of 7 open-ended questions prepared by the researcher were used
for data collection. The research was carried out by interviewing 15 classroom teachers
who were determined by appropriate criteria and sampling method and volunteered to
participate in the study, who carried out distance education through EBA in the first grade
in the 2020-2021 academic year, who had previously taught literacy to first-graders at
least three times. Descriptive analysis, one of the qualitative data analysis techniques,
was used in analyzing the data. Conclusions were reached and suggestions were made in
line with the findings.
