Abstract

Husband’s Nurturing his Wife within the Frame of the Expression “Kavvamûn” Abstract
There are religious, moral, traditional and judicial rules to regulate the relationship between husband and wife in family. Qur’an has already explained these rules and imposed various precautions and sanctions on those that cause problems in marriage. The right to nurture has been given to husband who fears his wife’s dominance and disobedience in marriage because he has been appointed as “kavvâm (guardian)” for his wife and this right involves admonishing, sleeping apart, and beating. In this article the form of the right to nurture in Qur’an will be examined. First woman’s, who acts in such a disobedient way, being nurtured by her husband will be considered and its framework within religion will be identified. It will be revealed that violence against women does not stem from Islam; on the contrary Islam has granted significant privileges and rights to women.
