Abstract
Criticisms Against the Polytheists in the Quran
Since the first addressees of the Quran were polytheists in the period of its revealing,
they were also the first community to be preached. However, the polytheists communicated
did not accept it and produced arguments against the revelation that was told them. But,
the Quran is not only answered but also criticized the polytheists from various angles.
It is possible to say that the criticisms produced by the Quran are about the claims and
allegations of polytheist. The Quran particularly emphasizes that the claims of polytheists
have no scientific value. In this context, the Quran asked the polytheists that from whom and how they learned their knowledge about Allah and indicated that not accepting
prophecy will be a contradiction with themselves. Aforementioned expressions are an
epistemic criticism of the Quran against the polytheists. On the other hand, the Quran
criticizes the polytheists also in the context of the relationship between knowledge and
deeds. According to the statement of the Quran, although the polytheists are not right in
their knowledge, they insisted on their mistakes.
