Abstract
Use of Digital Sports Technologies in Sports Television Broadcasting
Technological developments from past to present have had a profound impact on
the professional sports world. Sports, which became a mass demonstration with the
construction of large stadiums in ancient Greece, influenced the whole world with the
development of its own systems and the spread of mass media. The rise of the Internet
and digital technologies that changed the face of modern sports and sports psychology,
on the other hand, offers potential significant gains to sports and sports audiences,
and paves the way for a radical change in accuracy and decision mechanisms, timing
systems and data tracking in sports, and indirectly more effective sharing of the obtained
data with the audience. All these developments have affected not only sports but also
the ongoing broadcasting approach of the sports media around the world and the way
sports fans experience these broadcasts. The developments in the internet and digital
technologies have made a dynamic, interactive structure dominant in the production,
marketing, presentation and display of sports content for the screen together with the
new media, and a synergetic relationship has started between the presentation of sports
and the audience. Content has become faster and easier to access, and media files have
become more sophisticated and intuitive with improved resolution and color rendering.
Especially the instant, friendly and interactive nature of social media and mobile
technologies have made them suitable platforms to feed the desires of sports fans. This
study argues that new sports technologies ensure compliance with the rules of the game
in all sports, reinforce accuracy, increase athlete performances and build trust in the
audience. He also argues that these technologies affect the sports industry and therefore
sports broadcasting, that the content, methods and presentation styles have diversified
with the use of new communication technologies, and that the viewing experience of
sports fans has improved.
