Abstract
The Use of Twitter in Political Communication: The Example of the 27. Period Erzurum Deputies
New communication channels that emerged with technological developments also
create transformations in political communication. Political actors find the opportunity
to communicate with their target audiences by existing in new communication channels.
Twitter is one of these platforms. Twitter, which is faster than the mainstream media, free
from geographical limitations, offering horizontal communication, and not limited by
time and space, is used extensively by both citizens and political actors. Twitter, which is
one of the most used platforms in political communication in recent years, gives a new
impetus to political communication with its interaction feature. While the official Twitter
accounts of the 27th Term deputies in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey constituted
the universe of the study, the official Twitter accounts of the 27th Term Erzurum Deputies
as a sample were examined by obtaining the necessary permissions from them. In the
study, the data categorized using the content analysis method were analyzed by creating
graphs and tables.
