Abstract


The Analysis of the Instructional-Leadership Behaviors of the School Principals Working in Primary Schools in terms of Different Variables
This study was conducted in the aim of determining what level the instructional-leadership behaviors of the school principals are according to the perceptions of the primary school teachers, and determining whether the views of the primary school teachers differ according to variables of gender, professional seniority and branch. The sample of the study consists of 290 teachers working in the official primary schools under Ministry of National Education in Meram County, Konya city center in 2012-2013 school years. The questionnaire of “Instructional Leadership Behaviors of Principals” developed by Şişman (2002) was used to collect data in the study. In the analysis of the data, standard deviation, mean, t-test, Anova and Kruskal-Wallis H test were used. As a result of the study, the dimensions of teaching process and the evaluation of the students among the dimensions of the questionnaire of instructional leadership behaviors of principals were perceived in the highest level, whereas the dimensions of supporting and improving teachers were perceived in the lowest level. Besides, it was determined that the perceptions of the teachers about the instructional-leadership-behavior levels of the principals do not differentiate significantly; the perceptions of the teachers working in the branches of social and fine arts are higher than the classroom teachers and the teachers in other branches; and there is not a significant difference between the professional seniority of the teachers and the instructional leadership behaviors of the principals. The results of the study are discussed in the context of improving the instructional leadership behaviors of the principals.
