Abstract

Poetic Language within the Framework of Speech (Parole)-Language (Langue) Distinction (with Respect to Turkish Classical Poetry)
Comprhending, interpreting and analysing a literary work is possible primarily by recognizing the material of the subject work and considering the essence of it properly. The language used in literature and especially in poetry is different from the language (langue) which is common for and agreed by everybody in terms of understanding. This literal language is closer to “speech” (parole) which provides various meaning and perception opportunities to its collocutors and which is more variable in this manner. The concepts like symbol and image which have importance in the formation of poetic language arise depending upon the transformation of the words used in daily language from the field of ordinary usage to the field where they gain different meanings related to the context. The language material used in Turkish classical poetry have necessicated the useage of symbols and images which have been predetermined. From this aspect, Turkish classical poetry presents a conservative structure in terms of the opportunities provided by language to poets. However, in all eras ingenious poets who have succeeded to come into prominence, have developped and prospered the language materials by their personal preferences. In this study, features of “language” (langue) and “speech” (parole) which have been handled with reference to Turkish classical poetry, have been tried to be determined in poetic language and thus the incorporation process of the concepts like symbol, image, metaphor and simile which make poetic language different from daily or literal language, to these two different fields of language is stroved to be analysed.
