Abstract


The Relation Between Cognitive Style and Learning Style
With the rise of Humanistic Approach, language learning process has begun to be discussed from a different perspective and the individual has gained importance. In language teaching area, it has been investigated why some learners are more successful than others and some individual differences such as gender, motivation, learning styles have been focused on. In this study, it was investigated whether there is a connection between being field dependent-independent or neutral and having a type of learning style. This study was applied in a university level preparation class with 18 students learning English as a foreign language. While learning styles of students were determined with Kolb’s learning styles inventory, Group Embedded Figures Test was used to find out whether they are field independent or not. According to the findings of the study, it has been concluded that being field dependent-independent or neutral have a significant impact on having a type of learning style. On the other hand, it is required to replicate this pre-experimental study with more participants to reach more exact results.
