Abstract
The “Vâridât” of Haşim Baba Who is from Üsküdar
Pen-named as “Hâşim,” , “Haşim Baba”, “Hâşimî”, “Üsküdarlı Hâşim Baba”, “Üsküdârî” and “Bandırmalı-zâde”, Mustafa Hâşim Efendi, is one of the the leading sufi poets of the 17th. Century. He was raised and trained according to the Celveti rules of conduct and tradition but the preferred to practise the Bektashi path in sufism. He served as a Dedebaba, as a sheik in one the Bektashi dergahs. Haşim Baba, has never been accepted by neither Jilwatis nor Bektashis.He is already known with his works titled Dîvân, Vâridât, Ankâ-i Maşrık ve Devriyye-i Ferşiyye. Research on Haşim Baba’s works has so far stressed his poetical ability and his verse. This article studies Haşim Baba’s prose considering his book Vâridât It also examines the book’s place in sufi tradition , content, and linguistic and stylistic qualites. Thus, this sufi and literary personality has been introduced in different perspective not mentioned enough so far
