Abstract


Types Of Literature Texts That Can Be Used In Learning Arabic As A Foreign Language: Fable
New methods are being discovered every day in the field of foreign language teaching. These methods manifest themselves in terms of updating and editing course content, and tools that used with varying language teaching methods which differ according to the targets. One of the changes observed in the context is that the artificial texts in the textbooks leave their place to the literary genres. The importance and necessity of literature as an educational tool, especially in foreign language teaching, is an indisputable fact. Literary products, even if sometimes neglected, are the unique sources of learning target language and culture from first-hand. In this study, we will examine the usefulness of Kelile and Dimne, one of the important sources of Arabic literature, as a literary material in teaching Arabic as a foreign language. This work, which was originally written in Sanskrit and translated into Arabic by Abdullah Ibn Mukaffa‘ (142/759) during the time of Abbasids, contains different texts such as politics, morality and state administration. This work has also been one of the best examples of Arabic in terms of language usage. This work, which holds an important place in the transmission of written culture, is written in form of fable. Fable is a storylike didactic work which, aims to teach readers a lesson by making animals talk. Fables used in foreign language teaching can be used for giving examples of daily language, reflecting the target language's culture and as short stories. In this study, literature scanning method was used. As a result, we conclude that fables also made a positive contribution to the students in the teaching process besides novels, stories, poetry and theater.
