Abstract


The Opinions of the Primary School Teachers About the Manuscript Handwriting ın the Process of Transition from the Joined Cursive Handwriting to the Manuscript Handwriting
Language is a communication tool. The main purpose is to improve the language skills in the mother tongue education and teaching. Language skills are consist of two subskills as comprehension and narration. Writing among narration skills is very important. Writing is seen as a functional skill in terms of knowledge production, artistic sensitivity formation, critical thinking development, solution of individual-social problems. The Ministry of National Education stated that starting from 2017-2018 academic year, the literacy teaching will be started with the print letters. In the process of transition from the joined cursive to the manuscript handwriting; the views, opinions, awareness and observations of the primary school teachers who are practitioners of the manuscript handwriting are of great importance.This study was done to find out the views of the primary school teachers on the manuscript handwriting, to identify the problems they encounter during the reading and writing process and to find solutions for these problems. Based on the qualitative research tradition, a semi-structured interview form was used as the data collection tool. The study group consists of 15 class teachers working in Tokat city center during 2017-2018 school year and participating voluntarily. Content analysis was used in qualitative data analysis approaches.The data acquired in the research were presented in the charts and analyzed by frequency and percentage calculations. As a result of there search, it is seen that 93.34% of the primary school teachers find it appropriate to start the literacy teaching with the manuscript handwriting. Furthermore, participants also noted that they faced some problems in the teaching of upright text writing. A number of suggestions were made based on the findings of the study.
