The Use of Analytic Hierarchy Process Method in Steel Pipe Fitting Supplier Selection: Natural Gas Distribution Company Application
The decision of supplier selection is critical for companies to be successful. With the selection of the most appropriate supplier, the goods or services needed can be provided at the lowest cost, highest quality, from the right source, and at the right time. The study aims to determine the most suitable supplier for the supply of steel pipe fittings, which is one of the investment materials for a company operating in the natural gas distribution sector. In this context, it is essential to select the appropriate supplier in the purchasing activities because the materials to be purchased will occupy an essential place in the budget, the necessity of quality products, and the delays in the delivery time affect the whole operation. This paper deals with the implementation of the analytical hierarchy process for the selection of the most suitable steel pipe fittings supplier in a natural gas company. The lack of academic and sectoral studies for the selection of suppliers in the natural gas sector increases the importance of the study. The analytical hierarchy process method was used to determine the weight of the criteria and to rank the suppliers. As a result of the study, a positive application has been revealed about the applicability of AHP method for the supplier selection process in natural gas distribution companies.
