Abstract


Cultural Communication Value of Turkish Textbooks Prepared for Foreign Students: Example of Yeni İstanbul Uluslararası Öğrenciler İçin Türkçe Ders Kitabı C1
It is ensured that foreign language students meet the cultural values of the society through the texts related to culture in the textbooks prepared especially for intermediate and advanced levels. If the language learning and cultural interaction process is not planned correctly, if the texts in the textbooks are far from realizing these goals, it will not be possible to achieve the desired level of communication. In this study, it is aimed to reveal how and to what extent the texts in the Yeni İstanbul Uluslararası Öğrenciler İçin Türkçe Ders Kitabı C1 reflect the world of concepts that carry the cultural codes of Turkish language users. In order to reach the vocabulary related to culture, the necessary data were obtained with the elements of lexical cohesion, which establishes the integrity and continuity in the text, and also presents the determinative vocabulary in the subject and discourse of the text, the cultural communication value of the texts in the discourse presented throughout the course book was tried to be reached by means of the vocabulary staff determined. In this framework, the cultural impact of the texts that are disconnected from each other will not be at the desired level, therefore, the selection of texts related to the target culture, which will increase the power of cultural interaction and complement each other, in the course book; to show maximum care in the selection of texts containing information about Turkey, Turkish culture and Turkish society's vision of the world in order to prevent wrong evaluations that students may make about the target culture; it was concluded that instead of repeating texts with the same subject and similar vocabulary, students should meet with texts with different subjects and vocabulary.
